Bishop Grimes Alumni Spotlight - Linda LeMura
Prior to becoming Le Moyne’s President, Dr. LeMura served as provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Le Moyne since 2007, only the second person in that role in the College’s history. Between 2003 and 2007, Dr. LeMura was Le Moyne’s Dean of Arts and Sciences.
Before her tenure at Le Moyne, Dr. LeMura served as a professor, Graduate Program Director, and Associate Dean at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. Her research interests include pediatric obesity, pediatric applied physiology, lipid metabolism and energy metabolism. She taught applied physiology, anatomy and physiology, bioethics, and the biology of aging. From 1990 to 1994, Dr. LeMura served as a research consultant for both the United States and the Italian Olympic Committees. She is the author of numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts and competitively funded grant proposals, a physiology laboratory manual, and a textbook that has been translated into multiple languages. She is also a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine.
A Syracuse native and a 1978 graduate of Bishop Grimes High School, Dr. LeMura is a summa cum laude graduate of Niagara University, and received both an M.S. and Ph.D. in Applied Physiology from Syracuse University.
At Bishop Grimes, Linda was a member of student government, wrote for the school newspaper, and was involved with the yearbook. She also played three sports a year, serving as captain of the tennis, basketball and track teams. One thing was clear though, whether she was the superstar on the basketball team or a writer for the Cobra Chronicles, academics always came first.
Dr. LeMura is married to Dr. Lawrence Tanner, who is a professor of environmental systems science at Le Moyne, and they have one loving daughter, Emily. Dr. LeMura is firm in her beliefs that, while education is paramount, community involvement is equally important. In keeping with these values, she has served on the boards of the Syracuse Symphony, the Everson Museum and the Syracuse International Film Festival.
